Superb Fairy-wren

The Superb Fairy-wren is one of Australia’s most beloved little birds. Males become a brilliant electric blue during the breeding season, while females and young birds remain soft brown all year round.

These energetic birds are often seen darting through shrubs and low vegetation in small family groups.

    💙 Male has a brilliant blue head, throat and tail during breeding season

    🌿 Usually seen hopping through low shrubs in small groups

    Despite forming lifelong social pairs, Superb Fairy-wrens often mate with birds from neighbouring territories. It’s one of the highest rates of extra-pair mating recorded in any bird, helping maintain healthy genetic diversity.
